Description Part time position alternating BGC after school
locations at Jefferson, McKinley, & Madison elementary schools.
Program hours are Monday–Friday, approximately 3/3:30pm–6:00 PM
Coursework in Social Work, Guidance Counseling or Psychology is
beneficial. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate
about youth development and thrives in a relationship-centered
role. At the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County, we believe every
young person deserves a space where they feel seen and valued. The
Social & Emotional Development (SED) Coordinator helps create that
experience by building strong relationships with a caseload of
youth and help them grow in the areas of self-awareness,
self-management, relationship building, and responsible
decision-making. This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in a
relationship-centered, youth-focused environment and wants to make
an impact during hours after school. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Social & Emotional Development Support Build trusting relationships
with a consistent caseload of youth, serving as their go?to mentor
and support person. Conduct regular intentional meetings with Club
members focused on skill-building, reflection, and goal setting.
Club Experience & Behavior Support: Promote a positive,
youth-centered Club environment using Boys & Girls Club youth
development principles. Provide behavior support using
trauma?informed strategies to help youth understand expectations
and succeed. Reinforce consistent behavior expectations and apply
consequences per organizational policy. Build supportive
relationships with youth and families from all backgrounds. Program
Planning & Documentation: Design and deliver SED lesson plans,
activities, and experiences. Track attendance, participation, and
grant?required documentation. Document youth goals and progress
with clarity and consistency. Ensure programs follow Boys & Girls
Club policies and best practices. Safety & Facility Management:
Ensure child safety practices always meet or exceed the
requirements of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Boys & Girls Club of
Portage County, government agencies, and other collaborative
entities. Assist in ensuring the overall Club environment is safe
and inviting for all Club members, staff, and visitors. Assist with
cleaning schedules and equipment upkeep. Professionalism & Team
Collaboration: Arrive on time and dressed professionally.
Participate in staff meetings, coaching, and required trainings
(including CPR/First Aid, YMHFA, etc.). Build strong working
relationships with staff, youth, families, and community partners.
Set a positive example and contribute to a supportive team culture.
Complete all other duties as assigned Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS
Required High school diploma or GED At least 18 years old Valid
driver’s license and reliable transportation (rural travel
required) Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to support youth with patience, empathy, and consistency
Comfort working in a fast?paced, sometimes loud setting Ability to
lift up to 50 lbs Basic computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Beneficial (but not required) Coursework in Social Work,
Psychology, Counseling, or related fields Youth development
experience, especially in Club or school settings Experience with
SED facilitation, trauma?informed practices, or behavior support
Experience planning and leading activities for youth
