JOB DESCRIPTION

step in your career? We have an exciting opportunity for a
Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is perfect
for someone that's looking to apply their foundational engineering
skills in the design and analysis of machines, components, and
tooling.
This position will involve application of engineering methods in
carrying out technical tasks related to design and analysis of
machines, components, and tooling from concept through build.
Some assignments involve modifications and/or revisions to
established components and processes.
Works under close supervision and receives specific, detailed
instruction concerning required tasks and expected results.
Involves limited interaction with manufacturing, subcontractors,
vendors and customers.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts through participation
on project teams, applying technical expertise to data analysis and
problem resolution.
Effective performance of the responsibilities of this position has
a direct effect on the ability of the company to satisfy the needs
and demands of the customer. New products are the foundation upon
which company growth is founded. Continued improvement is also
essential to maintain a competitive advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Design modifications and improvements to equipment, mechanisms,
and tooling based on established concepts and instructions in
support of new product and process development projects.
- Create preliminary and detail design drawings using 3D solid
modeling with proficiency. Ensure that models and drawings conform
to established company modeling and drawing standards.
- Utilize advanced software to ensure proper form, fit and
function of tooling and machine assemblies through a full range of
motion. Apply analytical methods including FEA, engineering
formulas, and industry best practices to evaluate tooling and
equipment designs under static, dynamic, and thermal loading.
- Develop a basic understanding of the forming behavior of parts
and apply during the design effort to avoid tooling or drawing
problems such as premature fracture, tearing, and wear, or
inconsistent capability. Leverage companywide expertise to develop
and apply this basic skill.
- Contribute to the creation of project plans as required and
provide status updates to project management.
- Assist with the fabrication, assembly, and debug of tooling and
equipment to ensure systems conform to engineering design and
customer specifications.
- Provide operational, maintenance, and repair guidance to obtain
optimum utilization of machines and equipment. Recommend design
modifications to eliminate malfunctions.
- Assist in the analysis of tooling failures and reliability
issues, recommend improvements
- Apply engineering expertise to tool design identified during
design and development activities.
- Provide engineering expertise to quotation activity as
required.
- Provide technical data in support of material and outside
services quotation efforts to assure compliance with customers
specifications.
- Assist with development, improvement, and maintenance
activities to assure engineering expertise is applied to the
problem-solving process where appropriate.
- Provide customer design engineers (via project management) with
technical feedback concerning design feasibility of new products or
modifications to existing products and processes.
- Be involved in the development of new or improved tooling
and/or equipment and processes to facilitate the introduction of a
new product, or an improvement in cost, quality or delivery of
existing products.
- Assist in defining tooling standards to allow for ease of tool
manufacturing, reduce lead times, and increase tool
performance.
- Utilize mechanical engineering tools and methods to provide
effective direction to the Tool Design team to assure robust and
cost-effective tooling solutions.
- Evaluate tooling, equipment and process options for quotations
depending on customer request date or budget.
- Directly affect the organizations' ability to smoothly
assimilate new work into production.
- Participates in JSC's Continual Improvement Process.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor for additional
experience and/or training or refinement skills or in preparation
for advancement.
- Occupation includes a requirement to follow EHS procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field is a
plus.
- 3-5+ years of experience is preferred - open to 1+ years of
experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in a
metalworking or automation environment is a plus.
- Experience with SolidWorks is a plus.
- A high level of mechanical aptitude is required.
- The ability to visualize the configuration of tooling and
equipment is required.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- The ability along with the interpersonal skills to manage
projects involving highly skilled individuals.
- Math, problem solving, mechanical and reading abilities
required.
- Industrial experience desired.
- Skilled in performing detailed work with a high degree of
accuracy.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with vendors, customers, co-workers, and
management.
- Must be able to influence change & lead those who oppose
change.
- Ability to make quick and accurate decisions and work in a
fast-paced environment.
- Strong Microsoft Office Suite and written communication
skills.
- Ability to read, write and make calculations.
- Must be a US Citizen.
